Cosmic Myth Worksheet

Complete this worksheet using “Part 1: Cosmic Myths” from David Adams Leeming’s World of Myth: An Anthology.

Instructions: Read David Adams Leeming’s World of Myth: An Anthology, “Part 1: Cosmic Myths” (pp. 11-90). For each section in “Cosmic Myths” (Creation, Flood, Afterlife, and Apocalypse) read two of the myths in depth and detail, making notes. Fill out the worksheet using what you have learned. Make sure that for each answer that you provide a detailed, 1-3 complete sentence answer. Make sure to complete the entire worksheet! In the past, students have left several sections blank. Effort matters! Make sure that whenever you can, you put things in your own words. Paraphrasing, rather than just quoting the text, will help you understand and retain what you have read.

Grading: This assignment, along with all of the worksheets for weeks 1-3, will be graded on effort, completeness of your answers, and how well you demonstrate your understanding of the concepts from the text. Answer the questions asked with information from the reading! Do not answer them from your own belief system or experience. It is important that you demonstrate your ability to read, report on, and analyze the text. In many cases in the past, students have lost points by using their own beliefs in place of the reading. This worksheet is not checking what you believe; it is checking 1) if you read the assignments, and 2) if you comprehended and can use the information you read.
