1. Aim, objectives and feasibility of the dissertation (first draft required in Week 2 of RM module)
Justification With the advent of Web-based commerce tools and management systems, the traditional approach to the hospitality industry has changed to a considerable extent. For instance, more information is available to customers than there was in the previous decade, and buying patterns are dependent on a higher number of variables. Accessibility of information has resulted in high levels of competition, and customers have a high number of service providers to give their business depending on the accessibility, quality, cost and suitability of the providers’ services. This study will be aimed at determining the extent to which Ecommerce tools have influenced customer decision-making processes, and make recommendations to industry players on the best way forward
Aim of the Study
To determine the extent to which Ecommerce tools have influenced customer decision-making processes, and make recommendations to industry players on the best way forward.
Research Objectives
• To determine the level to which hospitality industry customers in the UK use Ecommerce tools for research, enquiry and purchases
• To identify the relationship between a company’s use of Ecommerce tools and changes in its customer base
• To identify the best approach and combination of Ecommerce tools for optimal results for firms in the hospitality industry
* Feasibility of the study
• The feasibility of the study is grounded on the access to databases, which contain materials related to the topic of the study. To put it more precisely, the access to such databases as Jstor, Questia, EBSCO, and others can lay the foundation to the literature review, which involves peer-reviewed, journal articles related to the topic of the study. In addition, the preliminary consent of participants of the study, including managers of the UK companies operating in the hospitality industry and customers using their services, has been already obtained.
Research Questions
• Does a company’s implementation of Ecommerce strategy affect customer choices, preferences and loyalty?
• Is the availability of Ecommerce tools an important factor in customer decision-making in the current hospitality market in the UK?
• What is the best approach and combination of Ecommerce tools for optimization of revenue and returns?
3. Research methodology and methods (first draft required in Week 4 of RM module)
Proposed Methodology
In order to determine the effects of Ecommerce on customers in the UK market, I will need to collect information from customers in the market of interest, compile information and come up with conclusions that may end up confirming or refuting the research hypotheses. Since this study will be done from a perspective of an inductive approach to reasoning, I will first have to do a background research on the research topic, and come up with an argument (Copi, Cohen and Flage 2007). The argument, which will be stated in the thesis statement and hypotheses, will be confirmed through the collection of strong evidence from study respondents in the target population. Data collection will involve the administration of semi-structured questionnaires for the collection of qualitative data, which will then lead to a qualitative data analysis through computerised or manual coding of the information obtained from respondents. Data analysis will result in confirmation of my first point of view and conclusion, refutation of my hypotheses, or the emergent of new ideas and variables that had not been observed prior to the study.
4. Timing mileposts
NB: You must reach Stage 8 at least 4 weeks before your deadline. A 30-day contingency provision is also advisable to allow for potential slippages. This will enable your DA to give you sufficient feedback on your final draft.
