The task is to analyze. You must show both sides; comparison and contrast. So analyze the biblical material of three kings (From the book of Samuel, kings, and chronicles.) Begin by selecting a minimum of five specific events or activities of a king. The most difficult part is selecting the items to analyze. For example when studying kings, a student could analyze their beginnings, their rise to power, their strengths, their flaws, and their respective falls. You must read the related material and then evaluate it.
– To clarify, you are NOT to review, survey, or retell the story of three kings; instead the task is to analyze by comparing and contrasting specific features of each.
-In order to complete this assignment you will quote verses from the bible in order to defend their views. Those quotes become a source and need to be documented both within the text and in the bibliography. (Bibliography does not count as a page) The text is to be formal written in third person.
-The paper should be typed, double spaced, with 1-inch margins, left justified text, and 10 point Ariel font.
-three kings: In order to start a study on the kings, you need to asses which kings to study. The three kings of the united monarchy (Saul, David, and Solomon) are the easiest to study because there is sufficient material about each one. But if you wish to review the kings of the Divided Monarchy it would be important to review other material.
-First step is to select the events or activities you want to review for the paper. (Need 5 items to review) Might want to choose more than 5 just in case some don’t work.
Second step is to prepare those passages for review. (Rather than use the bible, we recommend that you copy each passage and have it in front of you so you can begin to answer the questions: see below) You can download the passages from the web such as e-sword.net.
-Third step ask the basic questions; who, what, when, where, and how?
who: identify the people involved. Be specific. Note their relationship to each other and those in the passage
what: state clearly what took place, (maybe verse by verse)
when: Identify the time this event took place in the life of the person studied or in the sequence of the book itself.
where: Did this event take place in Israel, Judah, or Babylon?
How: Identify who or what initiated the event. Identify how and in what way the event ended?
(These questions should help you get started on the analysis process, more questions should be asked that you need to develop on your own.
