This assessment item will require that you exhibit understanding and mastery of material covered in the first two modules of this course.
The Task:
You must develop a mini-case (around 1,500 words) that briefly outlines a firm’s competitive context, its organisational resources/capabilities and a brief analysis of strategic options open to the firm to improve its performance.
The mini-case should be in 3 sections, each of approximately 500 words.
• Section 1 – Competitive Context
o This section should draw upon models including the Five Forces model and the Macro-environment model to discuss the firm’s competitive context. It should look (briefly) at recent historical changes, current conditions, and anticipated future developments. Realistically, you should look at only the most pertinent issues and should not try to cover everything.
• Section 2 – Resource and Capability Analysis
o This section should draw upon the VRIO model to assess the key strategic resources and capabilities that support the firm’s current and future strategic positioning and success.
• Section 3 – Strategic Options
o Using Hambrick and Fredrickson’s model (available at L@G) you should suggest one strategic option that will improve organisational performance and success.
The main purpose of this case study is to enable students to demonstrate their understanding of the material presented in the course and its application to a specific situation. The case analysis should refer only brielfy to theory, but should use extensive evidence (where possible) to justify the conclusions drawn and the recommendations made.

You should type your submission in a Word document. Your submission should be a maximum of 1500 words, excluding titles, references and tables, at 11 or 12 point font and double-spaced, with 25mm margins on all sides.
